Grupo Surman Standardizes Operations with SAP Cloud ERP

Mexico's automotive industry accounts for nearly 4.5% of the country's GDP and is one of its strongest economic engines. Supported by a highly skilled workforce, world-class manufacturing infrastructure and a strategic geographic location, the country has become a preferred destination for the world's leading automakers and one of the region's largest automotive export hubs.

It is within this dynamic ecosystem that Grupo Surman operates.

Founded in the 1970s in the Comarca Lagunera region, the company began as a tire business. In 1983, it opened its first automotive dealership—Ford Gómez Palacio—and from that moment, its expansion never slowed.

Today, Grupo Surman is Mexico's largest automotive group. With more than 40 years of history, it represents 46 automotive brands—including Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, Porsche and Bajaj—operates more than 140 dealerships across key states such as Coahuila, Sonora, Durango, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Mexico City, and employs more than 3,000 people nationwide.

But growth at this scale inevitably brings operational complexity. Every new company added to the group introduces its own processes, business requirements and, unless carefully managed, its own technology landscape. At scale, that level of heterogeneity is no longer a minor inconvenience—it becomes a structural risk.

The Challenge of Growing Without a Common Platform

An organization the size of Grupo Surman does not grow in a straight line. It expands by incorporating new legal entities, business units and operations into an already complex organization.

Without a shared technology platform, every new addition increases fragmentation. Data resides in different systems. Processes become difficult to replicate. And the visibility executives need to make timely decisions becomes scattered across disconnected applications.

For an organization with nationwide operations and ambitious long-term plans, the challenge was not simply managing today's complexity. It was building the right foundation for tomorrow's growth.

Building the Right Foundation from Day One

The strategic decision was clear: every new company joining the group would be built on a unified, scalable platform rather than replicating the existing heterogeneous environment.

Surman Servicios Financieros, GST Servicios and Mansi became the first three companies to implement SAP Cloud ERP with SEIDOR.

This was never intended to be a migration project. It was an architectural decision: building new companies from the ground up using global best practices, standardized business processes and consistent data from day one.

The impact was immediate.

Where each new company once meant another system to manage, Grupo Surman now has a common digital foundation that integrates procurement, logistics and finance on a single platform. Executives have access to consistent, real-time information across the business, providing the visibility they need to make faster, better-informed decisions as the organization continues to expand.

"Implementing SAP Cloud ERP in our new companies was not just a technology decision. It was an architectural decision: defining the foundation today on which Surman will grow over the next 20 years."Uriel Lara, CIO, Grupo Surman.

Business Outcomes That Matter

  • Three new companies launched on SAP Cloud ERP from day one.
  • Less manual work and greater operational control through automation and end-to-end process traceability.
  • A single source of financial truth, giving executives access to standardized, consolidated information whenever they need it—not when it finally becomes available.
  • Scalable growth without reinventing the operating model, allowing new companies and business processes to be incorporated into the same platform.
  • Audit-ready operations by design, with standardized processes that simplify governance, compliance and internal controls.
  • A cloud platform that continuously evolves, eliminating manual upgrades and local infrastructure dependencies while always delivering the latest innovations.

For Grupo Surman, This Is Only the Beginning

The implementation across these first three companies has become the blueprint for what comes next.

Grupo Surman is now expanding that vision across the organization, progressively standardizing its operations on SAP Cloud ERP to reduce the technology fragmentation that often accompanies growth and acquisitions. The objective is to establish a common digital foundation capable of supporting the group's continued expansion without adding operational complexity.

Because the organizations that scale successfully tomorrow are the ones that standardize today.

Building the Future with the Right Partner

Implementing SAP Cloud ERP across new companies within an organization the size of Grupo Surman requires far more than technology. It demands deep process expertise, integration capabilities and a long-term architectural vision.

To support that transformation, Grupo Surman partnered with SEIDOR, a global SAP partner with more than four decades of experience helping organizations modernize their operations.

With operations in 45 countries and a team of more than 10,000 professionals, SEIDOR helps organizations build the technology capabilities required to support complex, continuously evolving businesses.

At Grupo Surman, that approach established the digital foundation for an operating model designed to support continuous expansion—helping Mexico's largest automotive group grow with the consistency, visibility and scalability required of a world-class enterprise.
